Playing Baseball

Wally has been very interested in baseball the past week or so.  A new movie about baseball popped up on Disney+ and Wally absolutely loves it.  He watches it over and over and over again.  One day when he was having a sad moment, I found an old baseball of mine and a child-sized mitt we got years ago and gave it to him. His face lit up and he immediately asked to go outside and play.

    Oh. Crap.

We currently live in an apartment building on a seminary campus that is beautiful and has lots of lovely green lawns and open fields. It's terrible for Wally. He doesn't stay in one spot. He doesn't understand boundaries. I can't say to him "stay here in the back yard" or "don't go into the road." His body just goes wherever it wants to go, and it doesn't tell us first. I want so badly to be able to just take him outside and play ball, but until we have a fenced in yard that won't be possible.

Would a service dog make it possible? I think it would. It would certainly make it much safer for Wally. We dream of being able to do simple things like this, things like simply going outside without being afraid of Wally getting hit by a car.

You can help us make this dream a reality for Wally. You can donate to help cover the cost of training a service dog just for him.  Click here to donate now:
